Touching the Stillness

A vast and welcoming ocean of peaceful stillness exists just beyond our five senses, but not beyond the reach of our finer perceptions. The stillness, the great silent ground of the world, remains ever-present just beneath our ordinary experience. We need only meet it part way by opening ourselves, by reaching past our senses through our attention and intention to touch that stillness.

The stillness is substantive, but with a fine substance, a continuum of cognizance. Touching this higher energy, we find ourselves at peace, our presence enhanced, and our perspective broadened.

The expanse of stillness is not remote from us, not deeply hidden. We need only open our being to it. Just try it, simply and directly, several times during the day. Look to the quiet background of peace beneath your thoughts and sensory perceptions. You need not stop your thoughts for this, but rather open your gaze to the cognitive context beyond the stream of thoughts, sights, and sounds. Sitting quietly for few moments, or longer, can help you acquire the taste of stillness.

The more we touch the stillness, the more it permeates, supports, and brings wholeness to our life. For this week, touch the stillness within you.
