Inner
Work
For the week of: February 24, 2003
The
Next Rung
If I believe that time alone will
deepen my being, bring love and wisdom to my heart and mind, and liberate my
soul, I will either be disappointed or deluded. Freedom comes at a price,
whether the outer blessings of a free society or the inner blessings of the
spirit. On the path to the sacred that price includes the ever-deepening effort
to practice continuously and wisely. On this count we dwell on plateaus, levels
of comfort with our inner work. Ask yourself what it will take for you climb out
of your current plateau to reach the next rung on Jacob's ladder. Do you need to
practice for longer periods or more often or in a different way? Inner evolution
will not come from inner stasis and complacence. I cannot just wait for grace; I
must prepare a place for it to enter. What will it take to change my level of
being?
