Inner Work

For the week of: April 7, 2003

Moving With and From Sensitive Energy

Contact with our body serves as the most basic and valuable of spiritual practices, providing us with a platform to live in the present moment. Bodily contact comes through sensation, awareness of the sensitive energy in the body. Sitting still, we may find it relatively easy to sense our body. A more difficult but invaluable practice involves sensing our body in movement, moving with and from sensation. This extends our presence into more of our daily activities.

One way to start is to move deliberately and slowly with full awareness of bodily sensation, for example by slow walking. We can practice this during times we set aside for meditation. After establishing that taste of moving with and from sensation, we can extend it to normal-speed activities throughout the day.

For this week, practice moving with and from sensation.
