Inner Work

For the week of: May 26, 2003

Balance of Body, Heart, and Mind

To be fully human means, in part, developing and harmonizing our body, heart, and mind. Most of us live unbalanced lives, operating primarily through only one of these, with one or both of the others playing a minor role. Perhaps our feelings lie dormant except in occasional reaction. Or we neglect our body and its true needs, say by merely feeding its appetites while shunning physical activity. Maybe we abandon our minds to random associations and daydreams, while avoiding study and directed thinking. Our body, heart, and mind live separate lives, pulling us in at least three different directions.

Through the practice of presence we can awaken, balance, and unify our body, heart, and mind, making us whole in our individual, unique spirit.

For this week, notice where you live, whether in body, heart, or mind. Notice the relationships, or lack thereof, among your three major parts.
