Inner Work

For the week of: December 15, 2003

Blue Collar Inner Work

To move toward the heights of liberation and love, our spiritual practice must be grounded in the every day reality of blue collar inner work: time for meditation, time for prayer, direct work on being in contact with our body through sensation, transforming our difficult emotions, loosening the grip of self-centered attitudes, and the frequent practice of presence. The more we work in such ways, the stronger and purer our soul grows.

There is no spiritual substitute for real inner work. If we wait for the lightning bolt of grace to whisk us into heaven, or if we think that embracing some system of belief will do the job, we shall be disappointed. Grace finds receptive soil and belief flowers into faith only if we till the ground through persistent, balanced, and practical inner work .

For this week, renew yet again your actual practices on the path of soul building and purification.
