Inner Work

For the week of June 13, 2005

Establishing Physical Presence

The lower part of our soul develops from the energy of sensation, the energy that puts us in touch with our body and our senses. Through our inner work, sensation gradually forms a place for us to stand and be present, a place which we can inhabit. This foundation soul provides a robustness and concreteness to our experience of our body, emotions, and thoughts. It is an inner house which we can occupy.

Too often we only half-experience our body, a complex of flesh and bone that carries us along. In that state, although we believe that our body defines who we are, we rarely come fully into our body, into the wholeness of being in our energy body. The persistent practice of sensation leads to exactly that: being in our body, wholly, fully, and now. Through that practice we establish a physical presence, a foundation for our soul, and a strong place in the present moment, the first doorway toward the sacred.

To further augment the foundation soul, we intermittently practice energy breathing, consciously drawing energy from the air and allowing it to accumulate as sensitive energy within our body. The sea of energies that surrounds us provides an open and ready source of soul nourishment. It only requires a focus of attention and intention to tap into it.

For this week, renew your work to establish physical presence through the steady practice of sensation, supported by energy breathing.
