Inner Work

For the week of: April 28, 2003

The Holy Day

Every major religion designates special days for worship and observance. Several religions have such a Sabbath each week. Choose one of the days of the week as the day for you to reinvigorate and deepen your inner work, as the day for more concerted and continuous efforts of presence and prayer. Such a day can light up your whole week. Perhaps you will choose the day corresponding to your religion: Friday for Muslims, Saturday for Jews, or Sunday for Christians. Make this your sacred day on which to seek a more profound relationship with the spirit. You might incorporate extra periods of meditation or prayer, reading texts of the spirit, a renewed attention to being kind, some creative work, and other inner or outer actions that open your heart and nurture your soul. As the sacred text tells us: we remember the day and keep it holy.
